What is greenhouse effect?

I have gathered in different sources definitions and meaning of greenhouse effect. Later allow me to have my own definition of greenhouse effect based on what I have researched, ok? :)

"The term greenhouse effect refers to the way certain gases trap heat in the atmosphere, much as the glass in a greenhouse prevents rising warm air from escaping." - Climate Change Primer

For me greenhouse effect is:

Sun's radiation ------>absorbed by earth------>radiation converted into heat------>some are trapped

Without greenhouse effect living here on earth will be impossible because warm air will rise and heat will not be trapped to make us warm.
