What is greenhouse effect?
I have gathered in different sources definitions and meaning of greenhouse effect. Later allow me to have my own definition of greenhouse effect based on what I have researched, ok? :)
"The term greenhouse effect refers to the way certain gases trap heat in the atmosphere, much as the glass in a greenhouse prevents rising warm air from escaping." - Climate Change Primer
"The greenhouse effect is a process where energy from the sun readily penetrates into the lower atmosphere and onto the surface of the earth and is converted to heat, but then cannot freely leave the planet."-eathguide.ucsd.edu
"The warming of the atmosphere by the trapping of longwave radiation being radiated to the space. The gases most responsible for this effect are water vapor and carbon dioxide." - climatechange.net"The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring process that aids in heating the earth's surface and atmosphere. It results from the fact that certain atmosphere gases, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane are able to change the energy balance of the planet by absorbing longwave radiation emitted from the earth's surface." - PhysicalGeography.net
"The term greenhouse effect refers broadly to the partial trapping by the atmosphere of radiation from the earth's surface leading to a surface temperature that is larger than would be the case without the atmosphere." - Introduction to Greenhouse Effect
"Greenhouse effect is the process in which the emission of infrared radiation by the atmosphere warm a planet's surface." - Sciencedaily
For me greenhouse effect is:
Sun's radiation ------>absorbed by earth------>radiation converted into heat------>some are trapped
Without greenhouse effect living here on earth will be impossible because warm air will rise and heat will not be trapped to make us warm.
Well, if you tend to understand more if you see pictures and videos I will be leaving you with this easy to understand video on how greenhouse effect works. Enjoy watching.
